FP7 Funding for research and development
There are 6 open calls for proposals under the Seventh Framework Programme, (FP7). This programme supports collaborative projects which focus on research and development in the following areas:
- Food, Agriculture and Fisheries and Biotechnology;
- Health;
- Information and Communication Technologies (ICT);
- Nanosciences, Nanotechnologies, Materials and new Production Technologies;
- Energy;
- Transport (including Aeronautics);

Funding for energy projects
The FP7-ENERGY-2012-2 call supports collaborative projects which focus on renewable electricity generation (pv, wind, ocean); renewable fuel production (second generation fuel from biomass); and power generation technologies for integrated zero emission solutions.
Deadline: 8 March 2012
Marie Curie Actions
Marie Curie Industry-Academia partnerships and pathways (IAPP): IAPPs are partnerships between public and private research organisations based on a common research project and aims to increase the exchange of skills between the two sectors.
The fund aims to link researchers from universities and the corporate world, to a concrete project, financing expenses for a two-way job posting, including salary.
Deadline: 19th April 2012
Funding for media projects
Funding for film festivals which feature at least 70% of their content from ten, or more, European countries is available.
This can be used for costs such as subtitling, translation, catalogue printing and travel costs for professionals accompanying a film at the festival.
Deadline: 30 April 2012, for festivals taking place between 1 November 2012 and 30 April 2013.
The Access to Markets - Annual Contract supports proposals for events and activities, including computer-based information tools, designed to promote European audiovisual works and facilitate access to markets for European professionals.
Deadlines: 1 June 2012
The I2I Audiovisual scheme supports production companies which bear the cost of bank financing and associated insurance and completion bonds. It offers a grant to cover up to 50% of costs, capped at €50, 000 per project.
Projects where the first day of shooting was after 1 December 2011 and at least one of the contract(s) with a credit/financial institution, was signed between 1 December 2011 and 6 June 2012 are eligible.
Deadlines: 6 June 2012
Transport
The FP7- Transport-2012-Move-1 call supports safe and seamless mobility, competitiveness through innovation, the ‘European green cars initiative’ and cross-cutting activities.
Deadline: 1 March 2012
Funding for the creative industries
A competition to win £100K for game prototypes is now open. Applications should fall into one of three areas, which have been defined in association with Antix Labs and Turbulenz. The three categories are: Games on the move; Games in the home; and Social web gaming.
Deadline: 26 January 2012

The aim of Directive 2007/44/EC was to ensure that supervisory authorities are as specific and transparent as possible if they have doubts about the sound and prudent management of the financial institution concerned, and to minimise the scope for public authorities to invoke prudential rules in order to hinder cross-border mergers and acquisitions for protectionist reasons.

As part of its Smart Regulation policy, the European Commission announced in its Work Programme for 2010 that, "to keep current regulation fit for purpose, the Commission will begin reviewing, from this year onwards, the entire body of legislation in selected policy fields through "Fitness Checks".
The purpose is to identify excessive burdens, overlaps, gaps, inconsistencies and/or obsolete measures which may have appeared over time.The consultation offers an opportunity to all interested parties to express their views on issues of relevance to the European Commission’s Fitness Check of EU Freshwater Policy.

The legislative framework as regards renewable energy is laid down in the Renewable Energy Directive which sets an obligatory target of 20% renewable energy in final energy consumption as well as a 10% target in transport for 2020. Given the long-term perspective of investors it is necessary already now to look beyond that year.

Weights and dimensions of heavy-duty vehicles operating international and national transport in the EU are ruled by Directive 96/53/EC. This Directive aims at ensuring fair competition between hauliers, ensuring that transport operations may not be refused between two Member States on the basis of the dimensions of the vehicle used. In this sense it is a Directive which contributes to the internal market and the free movement of goods and persons.
Public consultation on the possible revision of Regulation (EC) 261/2004 on air passenger rights

Regulation (EC) 261/2004 introduced important new rights for air passengers in the event of denied boarding, long delay, cancellations and downgrading. The Regulation took effect in 2005 and sets a minimum level of quality standards in order to protect passengers.The present consultation aims to gather stakeholders' views on the identification of possible shortcomings of the Regulation and their extent, and on the options to improve its application, either via non-legislative measures or via a revision of the Regulation.

The European Commission has presented a strategy for the next two years to tackle trafficking illicit drugs and their chemical precursors, rapid emergence of new psychoactive substances, and reducing the demand for drugs and the harms that they cause. Public consultation on a possible revision of Directive 93/7/EEC on the return of cultural goods

Europe's cultural heritage is protected by national law in EU countries – and by European law, such as Directive 93/7/EEC of 15 March 1993 on the return of cultural objects unlawfully removed from EU member countries. This consultation is the next stage in the process of evaluating Directive 93/7/EEC. It will enable the national authorities responsible for protecting cultural goods and other interested parties to tell us what they think is the most effective way of ensuring the return of national treasures removed from an EU member country and now located in another EU country.

Revision of the rules for the assessment of licensing agreements for the transfer of technology under EU competition law

For the purpose of the EU competition rules, a technology transfer agreement is an agreement where one party (the licensor) authorizes another party (or parties, the licensee(s)) to use its technology (patent, know-how, software license) for the production of goods and services. The competition rules aim to strengthen the incentives for initial R&D, facilitate diffusion of intellectual property and generate market competition

Consultation on the Review of the EU state aid rules for research, development and innovation (R&D&I)

This public consultation follows publication of a mid-term review on the application of the current Community Framework for State aid for R&D&I in August 2011.
By way of a questionnaire, the Commission invites Member States and interested parties to submit their input and views on the review of the EU state aid rules for supporting R&D&I ahead of the expiry of theR&D&I Framework end of 2013. The Commission is in particular interested in statistical information and qualitative comments on national R&D&I policies at large and on national state aid support measures for R&D&I in particular.
