Attractive opportunities in Serbia and Bosnia
Both Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina are potential EU accession countries and have profited from EU autonomous trade measures since 2000.This agreement, allowing the duty free movement of goods between the region and the EU, has helped stimulate the economy and attract foreign trade and investment.
Exports from the UK to Serbia have grown by 34% since 2000, reaching $280 million in 2008. Supply opportunities are also likely to increase, as Serbia seeks to take advantage of its comparatively low wages, proximity to European markets and emerging free trade status with both the EU and Russia, thus attracting manufacturing industry into the country.
There are excellent opportunities for British companies in both countries and in particular in the following sectors: power, agriculture, oil, gas, transport, construction, telecoms, IT, security, mining, financial services, legal services and a broad range of consultancy services.
