Complying with CRC Efficiency Scheme legislation is good business!
Tuesday 22nd June 2010,
By end of September, any organisation, public or private, whose energy bills are in excess of £500,000 per year must comply with the new carbon reduction scheme, which will involve organisations monitoring their emissions and purchasing allowances to emit carbon dioxide (CO2).
Last month, Enterprise Europe Network London brought together experienced and junior consultants, managers and financial advisers with various level of knowledge on the topic, to find out how CRC legislation can play in their favour.
This interactive workshop began by providing a clear understanding of the legislation; continued by identifying its commercial implications and concluded with a business case analysis.
Michael Bonaventura, Chartered Engineer with Cambium, presented the context of the CRC legislation, followed by a review of the responses to date from both the organisations affected and the supply side to the emerging market. Cambium also provided a practical framework to enable responses to the legislation to be provisionally categorised, and explained how this tool could help to inform customer targeting, qualification and value proposition development.
Using an example from the retail sector, two Tesco stores were used to illustrate the extent of the financial exposure and to identify generic sector information that could be used to develop an ROI (return on investment) model in support of the business case for investment.
By the end of the day all the participants felt capable of coming up with an action plan to grow their sales pipeline by leveraging the CRC.
