Funding for health and biotech businesses
If you are a high-tech business involved in healthcare, biotechnology and medical technologies - the Health funding stream could be for you.
This year a significant emphasis has been placed on SME involvement, especially those looking to engage in clinical trials, and international co-operation. With the life sciences being a strong sector for the team we hope to be able to support a large number of SMEs to access this funding.
The application process for funding is scheduled to open in July 2010 with a deadline of October 2010. However we expect to know the full details of this year's priorities at the end of May, and are already working on four proposals with London businesses.
In particular funding for 2011 will focus on the following research challenges:
- Lifestyle factors and their impact on health
- Supporting clinical trials
- Increasing competitiveness of European health-related industries
- High priority research initiatives
- Global health issues

Spotlight on: CE Marking Campaign 2010
The European Commission has launched a new campaign to better inform businesses and consumers about CE Marking whilst also removing many of the misconceptions associated with it.
The Commission wants to make everyone who is involved in the manufacturing and selling of goods that are CE Marked to be aware of their responsibilities so as to ensure that only safe and compliant products are placed on the market. The campaign also aims to give stakeholders the opportunity to contribute to the policing of CE Marking mechanisms so that SMEs can better defend themselves against unfair competition.
To find out more about the campaign and CE marking contact us on +44 (0)20 7489 1992 / europe@londonchamber.co.uk or download our CE marking factsheet.
EC Consultation: EU Standardisation Policy
Standardisation in Europe is a voluntary cooperation between the industry, consumers, public authorities and other interested bodies. It has proved essential for smooth pan-European marketing of products.
The EU is currently seeking views from businesses on the potential changes that could be made to existing legislation on standardisation in order to further strengthen the benefits of the system. This is your unique opportunity to let the EU know your opinion on this issue and contribute to the development of new European policies.
To find out more about the consultation contact us on +44 (0)20 7489 1992 / europe@londonchamber.co.uk or visit http://ec.europa.eu/enterprise/policies/european-standards/public-consultation
