Key legislation: services directive
Ever wanted to provide your services elsewhere in the EU but found it too bureaucratic and a time consuming process? On 1st January 2010 a new European legislation – the Services Directive – has been fully implemented in all EU member states including the UK. The law requires national administrations to simplify procedures and requirements that service providers have to comply with. It also sets up points of single contact providing information about the administrative formalities.

Spotlight on: doing business in Bosnia and Serbia
Located in the heart of the Balkans, Bosnia and Serbia have experienced economic growth and continuous increase in international investment in recent years. In 2008 GDP growth reached 6% in Bosnia and 5.6% in Serbia.
Both countries are in the process of reconstructing, modernising and privatising their economies, which offers vast investment and export opportunities especially in infrastructure, financial services, construction, energy, agricultural, tourism and mining sectors.
To find out more about the array of business opportunities in these countries come to our event Attractive Opportunities in Serbia and Bosnia. For more information contact Annabel at afogden@londonchamber.co.uk / 020 7203 1967
Focus on the Eco-Innovation funding programme
Eco Innovation supports eco-innovative projects in different sectors which focus on the prevention or reduction of environmental impacts, or which contribute to the optimal use of resources. It funds projects which have a proven track record, but due to residual risk, are not fully marketed. In other words, it aims to remove obstacles to the development and wide application of eco-innovative products, services, management practice or processes.
Eco Innovation is expected to launch its next call for applications in late spring 2010. All sectors and activities are potentially eligible for funding, however specific priorities may be highlighted. Priority will be given to small-and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
In addition, clusters of applicants (including research and technological institutes) and projects which demonstrate a European added value and have a high potential for market replication are encouraged to apply.
Based on the 2009 call, approximately 40 projects are expected to be funded, worth a total of approximately €700,000 each over a three-year period.
