Audiovisuals

The 'Promotion and access to the market' programme aims to improve access conditions for professionals who trade events with professional audiovisual markets. Proposals are due by 7 August 2009.

Environment

The LIFE+ programme provides €20 million for co-financing UK nature and biodiversity, environment policy and governance and information and communication projects. Proposals are due by 15 September 2009.

Energy

The Eco-Innovation Programme supports the first application and further market uptake of eco-innovative products and services in Europe. Proposals are due by 10 September 2009.

Research and development

The ARTEMIS programme focuses on downstream research and technology development with a strong market drive. Proposals are due by 3 September 2009.

The ENIAC Joint Undertaking Initiative for research and development of nanoelectronics is due by 3 September 2009.

The ICT FET Open Scheme operates a continuous proposal submission process for small and medium-scale project proposals undertaking long-term research into information and communication technologies until 24 May 2011.

Consumer safety:

Type Approval of Motor Vehicles and Engines, EC legislation This Regulation establishes EU-wide technical requirements for the mandatory type-approval of motor vehicles, engines and spare parts in relation to their emissions. Manufacturers of new vehicles, engines and/or new replacement pollution control devices marketed in the EU have to be ‘type-approved’ in accordance with the rules set out in this Regulation.

eCommunications:

Use of Digital Dividend Radio Spectrum, EC consultation This consultation seeks opinions on the use of the Digital Dividend radio spectrum released through the transition to digital terrestrial television. It is an important step towards creating an EU digital roadmap, an initiative currently under consideration by the Commission.

Environment:

Adaptation of the Directive on Restrictions of Hazardous Substances, EC consultation This consultation aims to evaluate the existing exemptions and new exemption requests under the Directive on Restrictions of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) to take into account new scientific and technical progress in this area.

Education:

Promoting the Learning Mobility of Young People, EC consultation The aim of this consultation is for the Commission to gather together views on a wide variety of issues related to the existing and potential new opportunities for European citizens to travel abroad in order to study, volunteer or to gain work experience.

Justice:

Fundamental Right to Protection of Personal Data, EC consultation This consultation seeks to obtain views on the new challenges for personal data protection, the role of new technologies and globalisation, effectiveness of the existing legislation and suggestions on potential new actions that should be developed.
