There are 10 open calls for proposals under the Seventh Framework Programme, (FP7). This programme supports collaborative projects which focus on research and development in the following areas:

Research for SMEs
Research for SMEs aims to support small groups of innovative SMEs to address technological issues and to acquire know-how relating to this.
Deadline: 6th December 2011
Renewable energy projects
The FP7-ENERGY-2012-2 call supports collaborative projects which focus on renewable electricity generation (pv, wind, ocean); renewable fuel production (second generation fuel from biomass); and power generation technologies for integrated zero emission solutions.
Deadline: 8 March 2012
ICT projects
The FP7-ICT-2011-8 call supports persuasive and trusted networks, service infrastructures, technologies for digital content and languages, ICT matters for health, ageing, inclusion and governance law, the carbon economy, learning and cultural resources and future and emerging technologies.
Deadline: 17 January 2012
Marie Curie Actions
Marie Curie Industry-Academia partnerships and pathways (IAPP): IAPPs are partnerships between public and private research organisations based on a common research project and aims to increase the exchange of skills between the two sectors.
The fund aims to link researchers from universities and the corporate world, to a concrete project, financing expenses for a two-way job posting, including salary.
Deadline: 19th April 2012
Marie Curie Initial Training Networks: ITNs are networks of academic and private research organisations that collaborate to train researchers, in order to improve their research and entrepreneurial skills. This may help them join established research teams and enhance their career prospects in both the public and private sectors.
Funding covers recruitment of researchers and networking activities.
Deadline: 12th January 2012

Fiction, creative documentary or animation projects
Development funding for fiction, creative documentary or animation productions is available for projects for European and international markets, presented by independent European production companies, in the following categories: animation; creative documentary; and drama.
Deadline: 25 November 2011
The development of interactives that complement an audiovisual project
Funding for the development of interactives which complement an audiovisual project is available.
This fund may cover the development of production projects intended for European and international markets, presented by independent European production companies, in the following categories: animation, creative documentary and drama.
Deadline: 25th November 2011
Film festival organisers
Funding for film festivals which feature at least 70% of their content from ten, or more, European countries is available.
This can be used for costs such as subtitling, translation, catalogue printing and travel costs for professionals accompanying a film at the festival.
Deadline: 30 April 2012, for festivals taking place between 1 November 2012 and 30 April 2013.
European audiovisual works
The Access to Markets - Annual Contract supports proposals for events and activities, including computer-based information tools, designed to promote European audiovisual works and facilitate access to markets for European professionals.
Deadlines: 9 December 2011 and 1 June 2012
The Access to markets- Multi-annual Framework supports organisations that propose events and activites, including computer-based information tools, designed to promote European audiovisual works and facilitate access to markets for European professionals.
Deadline: 22 December 2011
Other funding opportunities
Carbon abatement technologies
The Technology Strategy Board will be investing £4.5m to innovative Carbon Abatement Technologies.
The competition addresses innovative solutions which reduce CO2 emissions from a large single point, such as a power station or process industry. There are two strands to the competition:
In Strand 1, up to £4m is available for collaborative R&D projects with an element of demonstration.
In Strand 2, up to £0.5m is available for feasability studies.

The Commission is preparing a Communication on a Directive concerning Misleading and Comparative Advertising.
This Communication will give an overview of how the Directive is currently implemented in the Member States, identify any problematic issues in the interpretation or application of the Directive and explore options for its possible review, including measures which could enhance cooperation between national authorities in the enforcement of cross-border cases.
Consultation on the Communication ‘Towards a Stronger European Response to Drugs”
EC Consultation
The Commission is preparing a Communication on a Directive concerning Misleading and Comparative Advertising.
This consultation aims at gathering the opinion of individuals and stakeholders that have an interest in and would like to shape the EU anti-drugs policy.
The consultation is designed to help the European Commission identify what are the EU-level actions on which it should focus in order to bring added value in the field of anti-drugs policy.

Areas of untapped potential for the development of the European Research Area (ERA)
EC consultation
The Heads of State and Government of the European Union have called to address remaining gaps for the achievement of the European Research Area rapidly in order to complete the ERA by 2014 to create a genuine single market for knowledge, research and innovation.
The consultation aims to reinforce the Commission analysis of the key issues to be addressed as well as to gather views on their importance: researchers' careers and mobility, research infrastructures, cross-border operation of research actors, knowledge circulation, International cooperation and cross-cutting governance issues.
