EU legislation and consultations

Auditing:

Adoption of International Standards on Auditing, EC consultation Based on the contributions and analysis of this consultation, the Commission will decide whether or not to adopt the International Standards on Auditing (ISA) developed by the International Auditing and Assurance Standards Board (IAASB) for the statutory audits of EU private entities.

Financial services:

Responsible Lending and Borrowing in the EU, EC consultation In its European Economic Recovery Plan, the Commission pledged to develop new EU-level measures on responsible lending and borrowing, including a reliable framework on credit intermediation, in the context of delivering responsible and reliable markets for the future and restoring consumer confidence. The aim of this consultation is to widen Commission understanding of responsible lending and borrowing and to inform it of policy options in this area and also to collect stakeholders' reactions to the issues raised in the consultation document.

Financial services:

Report of the Expert Group on Credit Histories, EC consultation The aim of this consultation is to gather stakeholders’ reactions to the report of the Expert Group on Credit Histories. The Group was established in Commission Communication on ‘A Single Market for 21st Century Europe’ and the White Paper on ‘Integration of EU Mortgage Credit Markets’. The Group was mandated to indentify solutions which maximise credit data circulation whilst ensuring a high level of consumer protection and it presented its conclusions and recommendations in the form of a report published on 15 June 2009.

Foodstuffs:

Regulation on Residue Limits in Foodstuffs, EC legislation In order to protect public health, this Regulation establishes maximum residue limits for pharmacologically active veterinary medicinal substances in respect of various foodstuffs of animal origin, including meat, fish, milk, eggs and honey.

Immigration:

Blue Card Directive, EC legislation This Directive is a cornerstone of Commission’s strategy to increase competitiveness of EU economy by enhancing legal immigration. The text sets the conditions of entry and residence of third-country nationals for the purposes of highly qualified employment. Its aim is to provide Member States and EU companies with additional ‘tools’ to recruit, retain and better allocate (and re-allocate) the workers they need.

Medical products:

Regulation on Supplementary Protection Certificates, EC legislation This Regulation aims at providing an EU-wide solution to protect investment into pharmaceutical research in the period between the filing of an application for a patent for a new medicinal product and authorisation to place it on the market. Any product protected by a patent in the territory of a Member State and subject, prior to being placed on the market as a medicinal product, to an administrative authorisation procedure may under the terms and conditions provided for in this Regulation, be thus entitled to a supplementary protection certificate. The Regulation also includes information on the eligibility criteria and the application process.
